In 1992, Ryegate Associates firmly established itself as a local powerhouse in power provision. Our claim to fame is our state-of-the-art 20 MW wood-fired electrical power (biomass) generation facility nestled in East Ryegate. Our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability shines through integrating a cutting-edge Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions control system, efficiently mitigating emissions from our facility.
At the heart of this eco-friendly endeavor lies the SCR device, a remarkable feat of engineering. It consists of a stack bypass system that skillfully guides combustion gases through a carefully designed array of 477 ceramic plates, each measuring 2 feet by 2 feet. Within these plates, a titanium catalyst, reminiscent of the catalytic converters found in automobiles, performs its magic. The results are impressive, with NOx emissions experiencing a significant reduction from roughly 1.5 lbs/mmBTU to a mere 0.75 lbs/mmBTU—a remarkable 50% drop.
Operating as a baseload electrical generation plant, our facility boasts a consistent operational capacity of around 100%, ensuring a dependable and uninterrupted power supply for our valued customers. The only deviations from this unwavering commitment occur during scheduled maintenance periods, during which we painstakingly optimize our plant's performance.
We proudly wear our legacy, having powered the local community for years. Our cutting-edge facility and steadfast dedication to environmental responsibility set the gold standard for sustainable power generation.
Our Ryegate Associates Power Generation Facility is home to a dedicated team of 21 individuals, many of whom call the local area their home. A regulatory forester is pivotal, ensuring strict adherence to the Vermont Harvesting Regulations, underscoring our commitment to responsible forestry practices.
In our relentless pursuit of sustainable energy solutions, we proudly produce and deliver an impressive 250,000 tons of whole tree chips annually, substantially contributing to the renewable energy sector. Moreover, our annual distribution of over 4,000 tons of wood ash finds valuable applications in various recycling programs, including its use as organic fertilizer for farmers. This not only contributes to waste reduction but also lends support to the agricultural community.
Our unwavering dedication to renewable energy is further exemplified by our qualification for Renewable Energy Certificates in the New Hampshire and Connecticut renewable energy trading markets. This recognition underscores our steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and improving clean energy sources.
To safeguard the continued triumph of our operations, we've thoughtfully forged a long-term power purchase agreement with VEPP Inc., allowing us to market the electricity generated at our facility.
